Over the past 8 seasons, the entire EPL accounted for just 5 UCL semifinalists. Bayern Munich alone has 6 semifinal appearances, the Bundesliga as a whole has 8.

Liverpool won the CL Super cup and CWC the season before, against an English team in the final, and both teams in the EL final were English. The only time in history both the CL and EL finalists were all from the same country.

Yeah, fine. The year after and the years before that, English teams constantly disappointed though. The Bundesliga also had an all-German UCL final in 2013, when Bayern Munich won the title against Dortmund in Wembley. Just wanted to mention that.

Who cares if English teams dominated the competition in the late 70s and early 80s, before either of us was born? Over the past 8-10 years, EPL clubs did no better than Bundesliga clubs.

Yes, the 1-3 was a low point for us. We had the wrong coach back then, ever since Flick took over, we're a completely different team. Also, Liverpool was in the middle of a 3-season long run of greatness at the time. After this 1-3 loss to Liverpool on aggregate, we went on to rout Tottenham 10-3 and thrashed Chelsea by 7-1 on our way to an unbeaten CL season. And let's not even start to count the dozens of times that we demolished Arsenal over the past decade.
