I’m not a foreign affairs expert, but the threat of westward expansion is sort of why NATO was formed. It would probably take a singular “whoopsie daisy” by Russia for NATO to get involved, and if China directly supported that “whoopsie daisy”, they’d be dragged into it was well.
Again, for context, this is completely a subjective observation on current affairs and I could be far from reality.
2 nuclear powers will not clash by the way, this is fantasy, there is sort of an unspoken rule.
What would happen is more proxy activations ye. Also I doubt there would be such a strong reaction to arming russia, I doubt russia really needs it but even if they did, considering americans are already arming ukr as they wish I don't expect any real repercussions.
