So what if scientists trust the policy experts, or agree with the decisions they're making? Or what if the scientists are the policy experts?

I really have trouble following your train of thought. All I said was that I don't trust people I don't know personally. Why do you have a problem with that?

We are getting off topic.

The issue isn't how people in power can lose their power when the economy is bad. It's when you said that people are responding to covid because it does bad things to the masses, and I am telling you that I simply don't believe that. I simply don't believe that people in power care about us. And if it sometimes seems like they do, it's only because they want to avoid an uprising.

Interesting. So what is the difference between the two?

They want to avoid an uprising. Oh my god, exactly what I said! People in power can stay in power much easier with a solid economy. That's just a fact. Nobody wants a global pandemic that fucks their economy.

Policy experts are people who are experts in a specific topic and advise politicians about how best to achieve their goals on the topic. So if I were a legislature and I wanted to know about how best to address a shortage of healthcare professionals I would consult a policy expert. They are likely to understand the situation and how different policies might impact it and would help me craft legislation.

because it's a lie. You do trust people you don't personally know. You literally told me just today that you rely on others to educate you on this forum.

So stop being dishonest and just hop back on your main account.

But wanting to avert an uprising is not the same as people in power caring about us. But anyway.

I never said they care about us. I said they care about the economy.

So do you shop at the grocery store? Do you drink the water coming out of your tap? Do you walk around in public with strangers driving their cars on the road? You make decisions every day that put your trust in the system and the people around you that you don't know.

It's like I said, I acknowledge that it's almost impossible to not trust someone. But I do my best. And I try my best to only trust people I know personally. And on the rare occasions that I do trust someone I don't know personally, I am always open to the idea of them not being trustworthy.

No. Learning from dialogues with others is not the same as relying on them to educate me.

I realize that. And I also acknowledge that it's pretty much impossible to not trust people. But my main point is that people should be open to the possibility of others not being trustworthy, and don't be quick to shoot down someone who alleges that a public figure is untrustworthy.

And people who care only about the economy but not the welfare of the general public is not someone I want to trust.
