What do you think catch and release effectively accomplishes? The Biden administration is and has been fighting to end the "Remain in Mexico" program because it effectively solves for the problem of illegal migrants claiming asylum before disappearing into the country.
The migrants themselves seem to have gotten the message loud and clear, not the least because they were the under the impression that Biden/Harris had told them to come.
Having disagreements on how to enforce border security is not the same as "Open borders" and you know that. Democrats have consistently supported funding for border security and fencing when it makes sense, as well as funding programs to improve the lives of people in the countries people migrate from in an effort to curb the conditions that promote illegal immigration. You're better than this bogie or you were a decade ago.
Setting up your opponent as a strawman so that you seem reasonable by comparison is the oldest trick in the book. The argument was never build the wall or open borders.
