Not necessarily. Land and improvements to it can be both private property and means of production.

Indeed, I specifically excluded land from my examples for a reason.

Land is redistributed under all systems towards public good. In the U.S. under capitalism we displaced millions of black families across virtually every city in the country to build highway projects, for example.

Yep yep.

People often say "Communism killed X people", but the numbers are wildly inflated and typically include Nazis killed by Russia in WW2.

Meanwhile the capitalism numbers totally ignore genocide of Native Americans, the entire slave trade, colonialism, etc. etc.

Like, not saying communism is viable, cuz it really isn't, but the point is that neither system has clean hands. You really can't get away from tens of millions of deaths no matter what pre-existing system you adopt.

Capitalism

Capitalism is an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and their operation for profit

Socialism

Socialism is a political, social, and economic philosophy encompassing a range of economic and social systems characterised by social ownership, of the means of production, and democratic control.

Communism

Communism is a philosophical, social, political, and economic ideology and movement whose goal to produc a socioeconomic order structured upon the ideas of common ownership for the means of production with the absence of social classes, money, and the state.

Colonialism, the slave trade, and the genocide of Native Americans happened primarily under mercantilist regimes. But the whole conversation is ridiculous, are we saying that earlier societies didn't commit genocide? That they didn't keep, traffic, export slaves? That colonies didn't exist?

In contrast, communism in China directly led to the deaths of tens of millions of people. It led directly to starvation in the Ukraine. It's not incidental, in the sense that we can't blame socialism for what Saddam did to the Kurds. It's a direct result of the implementation of communist policies. Communism killed those people. We don't draw false equivalences because there aren't any.

I lived under communism and it's horrible, you are starving body, mind and soul.

Anyone advocating for communism need to see a psychiatrist.

And the genocide of Natives was also a direct result of the implementation of capitalist policies.

As was the destruction of black communities for the highway system, and the trans-atlantic slave trade.

My point isn't that Communism has clean hands. My point is that nobody has clean hands in this discussion, and the whole "communism killed XX people" is a fundamentally dishonest one.

Spanish-American War and War in the Philippines were exclusively to open markets for Americans.

As if on cue, the leftist strikes with “racist highways”

Absolutely priceless Pete butigeg is so proud of you for helping his bullshit become normal.

Tell us how the parkway in Long Island was designed to specifically keep Peurto ricans off the beaches. Not at all to halt commercial traffic on the parkway, which is literally what parkways are specifically built for.

I have no idea what you're referencing.

I'm referencing the fact that in basically every city the interstate system was built by taking property from black people and paving highways over it because they were the poorest areas with the least ability to fight back against noise and eminent domain.
