Well considering the 2nd amendment was made to prevent oppression and in current times that's essentially impossible to compete with a trillions of dollar world power I don't really blame them. There's really only negatives to allowing randos to have possession of weapons easily modified to go auto

Background checks rarely tell the whole story and there’s no mental health checks during or after gun purchase. Doesn’t really help anything besides proven felons/people who have been diagnosed with serious mental issues from buying a firearm.
“Citizens rights” is kind of a non argument like I said in my previous post. You can defend yourself reasonably with a handgun or similar that isn’t easily loopholed into becoming automatic

Yeah making them illegal will definitely fix the issue.

Or you could make mental health checks annual/bi annual and institute a buyback law for illegal firearms to prevent the supply

Exactly! Lower production in Civilian produced firearm factories and spend some money buying the excess firearms. You could even refurbish them and give them to law enforcement/Military personnel to get some money back.
Small price to pay but it’ll be more than worth it when property values go up in basically every neighborhood with shootings
