This kind of (figurative) corruption of institutions is fundamentally different from (literal) corruption by individuals. When an elected official is too corrupt, he can quickly be removed within a couple of years. See Trump, who was inept and led a corrupt administration and consequently got the boot by the voters.

However, when the press, the judiciary, think tanks, the federal bureaucracy or academia start indoctrinating and manipulating the people to serve goals which are not in the best interest of the country, then that's a lot harder to stop and can have much more catastrophic long-term consequences than just one bad president.

To put it bluntly: America's institutions were no longer derserving of the level of trust that most people put into them. Now, they're in a position where they have to earn back this trust, and that's a good thing. Trump forced America to take a long and honest look in the mirror. Most people didn't like what they saw - good! That's the indispensable first step to fixing these issues and shortcomings.

The capital building is a much less secure building compared to the whitehouse. It has far more personell going in and out, and far less security. The white house is probably the most secure building on the planet.

Edit: When you receive responses from people who talk about trickle down economics, yet refuse to pay off their college loans and leave it to the working class, don't believe bullshit about "scams". The scam is the upper middle/lower upper class trying to force the working class to foot the bill for their... "Education". There's a level of duh in some posts in this forum that grow rather exorbitant, but I didn't expect to see it today.
