I can't believe I need to explain this to you. If I post all your passwords, social security number, etc. online, you're arguing that you're not injured. That's complete horseshit. If espionage had no value, people wouldn't do it. Losing a competitive advantage IS injury.

Sanctions are a diplomatic and financial tool...that's the exact opposite of a warhawk lmao.

Show where private information was posted, because NOBODY has claimed that.

All that has been alleged is that various sources "hacked in" and took a peak at various systems. Not that they did or altered or damaged those systems in any way, nor that they disseminated any information.

So, either source your claims, or post some real evidence of injury.

And sanctions against other world powers are designed to ruin the economy of those powers. If allowed to remain in place for any extended length of time, they often lead not only into the stifling of innovation, but lack of necessities being manufactured or grown, and mass starvation. Any real attempt to sanction Russia over something where there's no injury even alleged would be a declaration of economic warfare, which nearly always leads to violent warfare.

Again, you're a warhawk. Whether economic or violent, you just want to use power against other nations, without cause, because you think we can. That's stupid, and completely ignores the fact that if every nation the US has "hacked" imposed sanctions against us, we would be facing global sanctions. Prove injury, or stfu.

I like to play on an uneven playing field because I want to do what's in America's best interest. We should create alliances that expand our influence and we should isolate our adversaries so that we can bend them to our will. As for sanctions, you're assuming that I'm advocating for the most extreme sanctions i.e. what we have with North Korea. You can sanction individuals, industries, etc. All I want is to deter countries from engaging in this level of espionage.

The damage is certainly in the billions of dollars because almost every Fortune 500 company has to spend money to determine how compromised their networks are. Audits need to be performed to ensure data integrity. The same applies to federal, state, and local governments. Again, I can't believe I have to explain this to you. If YOU were the culprit, you'd go to prison for a very very long time.

So let's see, they did no damage, but it may be that companies have to spend money to shore up weak cybersecurity. Okay? Seems to me that if cybersecurity for these companies was being provided by FireEye and SolarWinds and they failed so abysmally to protect them, that it was these private cybersecurity companies at fault for the breach, and the case is against them. The companies paid to protect failed to fulfill their contract, and have therefore caused monetary injury. Solid basis for bringing a case, at any rate.

Still has nothing to do with Russia. Russia is a sovereign nation not subject to US law. To date, there's no proof beyond allegations made by FireEye and SolarWinds that Russia actually did anything, or had anything to do with any alleged "breach" and those companies have provided zero evidence. Likewise, no evidence of any damage or dissemination has been provided whatsoever. So, based on zero evidence of any wrongdoing, you want to engage in economic warfare against a sovereign nation simply to exercise power over them. As I said: Warhawk.
