I think of it differently. If Trump had simply done the most basic, easy things surrounding COVID. If he had taken it seriously at least from a messaging standpoint. He would've sailed to re-election. It was a layup, and he missed the backboard completely.

yup like i said earlier, trump's inability to make Trump2020 facemasks cost him reelection. branding is his greatest strength, and he decided to make unprofitable things like defying mask orders his brand rather than products he could have sold to boost re-election funds.

politics is about messaging more than plans. its prob like a 60-40 split most times.

All he had to do was be a proud boy, then stand back and stand by while letting the people at the top handle it. He's a science denying narcissist though so that was never gonna happen.

yeah... i agree with a few above
without covid, easy win
but even with covid, just say "listen to dr. fauci" and "wear a mask in public and socially distance" from the get-go
and you're into your 2nd term smooth sailing
too much to handle i guess

I think Covid helped Trump in a lot of ways. It really rallied his base on a steadfast issue. It also cause a lot of independents and even democrats to think "if I vote Biden, the country might shut down. If I vote Trump, i can still go to my job, see my friends, do what i want, etc." Whether dems will say it publicly, a TON of them (just look at your facebook/insta ppl) say they're super safe, then go out with friends. So they won't SAY it, but when they get to the ballot box, they vote for what they want and for a lot of dems, that's keeping the country open, covid be damned.

Proof is in the pudding - Good evidence of this was the blue wave that happened in 2018 that people didnt really expect. No one cared because it was midterms, but democrats killed it.

A very good example was the governor race in Pennsylvania. Tom Wolf ran against Scott Wagner. Scott Wagner was a disciple of Trump no doubt about it. Brash, loud, "no-nonsense" etc. He lost 58% to 40%. 18% margin in fucking Pennsylvania in 2018. Add that to the fact that republican turnout is much higher than democrats in midterms, that could've even been higher.

So no, I actually think Covid helped Trump.

can we have a bit of consensus among PARD about how idiotic Trump's talking point is that the media reporting him BEHIND in polls was somehow bad for Trump's vote total?

if you're behind, people rally to vote for you. his dickless non-concession speech last night had him repeat over and over that the media reporting Biden winning polls was a bad thing for him.

The worst part about all of his is that with polling being the shit show it is we really have no way of knowing how anything impacted anybody's political opinion in particular lol

Dude thank you. I saw the polls with Wisconsin up like 12 points and i was like "fuck me, no democrat is gonna go out to vote because they think it's in the bag, just like 2016." It is completely common knowledge for anyone who researches this stuff that when one party has a hefty lead, it discourages them from voting because there isnt the need/urgency necessary to do so.
