I think Covid helped Trump in a lot of ways. It really rallied his base on a steadfast issue. It also cause a lot of independents and even democrats to think "if I vote Biden, the country might shut down. If I vote Trump, i can still go to my job, see my friends, do what i want, etc." Whether dems will say it publicly, a TON of them (just look at your facebook/insta ppl) say they're super safe, then go out with friends. So they won't SAY it, but when they get to the ballot box, they vote for what they want and for a lot of dems, that's keeping the country open, covid be damned.
Proof is in the pudding - Good evidence of this was the blue wave that happened in 2018 that people didnt really expect. No one cared because it was midterms, but democrats killed it.
A very good example was the governor race in Pennsylvania. Tom Wolf ran against Scott Wagner. Scott Wagner was a disciple of Trump no doubt about it. Brash, loud, "no-nonsense" etc. He lost 58% to 40%. 18% margin in fucking Pennsylvania in 2018. Add that to the fact that republican turnout is much higher than democrats in midterms, that could've even been higher.
So no, I actually think Covid helped Trump.
The worst part about all of his is that with polling being the shit show it is we really have no way of knowing how anything impacted anybody's political opinion in particular lol
