its not.. it would be like me using T. Carlson to prove a point.

Tucker Carlson is largely a commentator, though he does do interviews. And he presents arguments based on actual news sources.

Sounds like his arguments could be used to help prove a point.

If anything, someone from the other side of the partisan divide confirming your argument lends it additional credibility.

What are they exactly?

He probably didn't pay income taxes because of the way his assets have depreciated or the way he is shielding his wealth by reinvesting earnings or whatever. There are a lot of accounting loopholes one can use that are totally legal. If he has been losing money on his hotel businesses or has spend money to expand businesses then there's way to basically minimize your tax burden. Literally all business people do it.

If you look at someone like Bezos, most of his worth is basically amazon stock. He won't sell that shit for eons because he'd have to pay the tax man on that sale. So while he's worth tens of billions because of all his shares, his income tax is also probably much lower of someone that's worth 170+billion because he's not dumb enough to liquidate assets and pay the tax man.

Yeah... nothing you posted that everyone doesn't already know.

It's really interesting that you guys can't even conceive of any reasons why this article might point to problems with Trump or our system. I'm not sure if it's playing stupid or just stupid.

It isn't lol

Trump's investments are almost all private, so when people make things like Forbes lists they basically just have to go off what they tell them the company is worth. There's no publically available stock price and ownership numbers to go on.

Does this expose Trump as a hypocrite when contrasted with his previous populist statements about "billionaires not paying their fair share"? Absolutely.
Does it expose Trump's business as being less successful than he pretends? Probably.

Does it expose any kind of fraud or crime or immoral deception by Trump? Hell no.
Is the fact that the NYT got access to these tax returns outrageous and indicative of a massive abuse of trust by whoever is their informant? Absolutely. It might even be an actual crime.

I still think that this story will hurt Trump at the margins. Part of his appeal to formerly Democratic-leaning working-class voters was his populist rhetoric about how "the elites are bending you over, but I will fight for your interests" and "the system is rigged against people like you, and I alone can fix it". This story undermines all of that.

Worth pondering how Trump has represented the values of his businesses in order to get loans vs. when it comes time to pay Uncle Sam. There's already been articles discussing this of course. That's where you might fall into criminality.

Of course, nobody ever judges presidents strictly by what is legal for them to do.

You think that the people lending billions of dollars don't do any due diligence and that they just take what he scribbles down on paper as the value to be taken seriously?

Again ill ask you, what does this article offer.

Annual audited financial statements are submitted with the tax return. Those are the same audited financial statements that any lender would be asking for.
