I don't know that it's helpful or accurate to label race riots "terrorism". They've happened before. There's often legitimate grievances motivating the illegitimate action. It's just a fact that Trump is now president and these riots are happening. They continue to happen while he campaigns on the issue, as if it's a reason to re-elect him. Trump has been a racially divisive president... he's doubled down on it since the George Floyd incident. "Double down on a president who makes racist appeals more than any other in recent memory in order to bring the country together" is a hot take even you wouldn't dare to make.

It's not about appeasing a mob, it's just a matter of fact for those concerned with these riots. A Biden presidency would lower the temperature. He would work harder to address the legitimate concerns that some of these protesters have, and his rhetoric wouldn't be dismissive or inflammatory.

All that said, it's just inevitable that these sort of protests and riots are going to happen after black people are killed by police. Who sits in the Oval Office is only relevant to some extent.

I really would love to make a documentary on you and all the other lefties on this forum. Follow you around, see how you live, etc. I think it would be extremely informative and telling.

The issue is whether these concerns motivate voters to come out for Trump. It makes no sense that the guy presiding over these riots is going to be the one to stop them in the future. In fact, it's reasonable to conclude that a Trump re-election just makes the matter worse.... a Biden election lowers the temperature. But the average, mostly uninformed voter might have different ideas.

Lol what? Those riots occur in the wake of a protest movement that is explicitly Democrat-aligned and anti-Trump. It is happening almost exclusively in cities which have been governed by Democrats for decades, if not generations. Local Democratic leaders are appeasing or even aligning themselves with these protesters, and put local law enforcement on a tight leash, prohibiting them from cracking down on those protests which have turned violent and gotten out of hand. And when Trump was sending federal law enforcement, Democratic officials, Democratic mayors and Democrat-aligned media were freaking out, talking about fascism and stormstroopers, and unambiguously called on Trump to withdraw his federal forces.

So, what more is Trump supposed to do about the issue while respecting federalism and the constitutional balance of power between municipalities, states and the federal government?

Thank you, I agree wholeheartedly. It's almost like the left wants Trump to become an Authoritarian and completely disregard the constitution.

There's a few things he could do by just changing his behavior.

1. Don't say things like "Don't be too nice" in reference to police apprehensions. (Pretty clearly a tacit endorsement of police brutality)
2. Maybe tone down the racially charged language and policy, such as his recent "you don't want 'those people' in your suburbs" comments and his revocation of Obama era rules specifically made to combat segregation
3. Initiate and support investigations into police brutality using the Justice Department

Those are things that are just really easy to see from the surface. There are far more options at his disposal, but instead of looking to solve the problem he's opted to use it as a campaign tool. And yes, he is far too incompetent to even make himself aware of the powers he has to deal with problems, and that's part of the problem.

Those are long-term solutions. None of this would stop the current, ongoing wave of violence. And there's zero guarantee that this stuff would prevent the next violent protest from taking off after the next case of white-on-black police violence.

Speaking of which, how did the promises from the liberal side that "the violence and unrest in Portland will end once the mostly peaceful protesters are no longer provoked and antagonized by the federal police" pan out?

This messaging makes no sense at all though. How is it reasonable to assume that the party that calls for basically no accountability from police winning elections would reduce police violence, and thus reduce the need for these protests/riots? The party that elected a man to the presidency who called for police to be more rough and who cozies up to Confederate sympathizers? It's true that voters are probably too dumb to be nuanced about the issue, but there's no reason to believe a Trump 2nd term would make these protests/riots less prevalent. The protest movement is certainly anti-Trump and more aligned with Democrats, so putting Biden and Democrats in power would at least give these people reason to believe their voices are being heard.

Frankly I think there's not much a president can do on these issues, besides rhetorically striking the right tone. People will continue to be unjustly killed by police, but a government that at least recognizes the concerns of protesters is one that lowers the temperature.

bastardizing a legitimate movement for equality and police/criminal justice reform to justify arson, murder, killings, looting, rioting, and increased suffering of minorities can easily be described as terrorism in nature

Instead of launching teargas, maybe they should launch fried drumsticks.

Calling them terrorists doesn't seem to be a way to lower the temperature.

Always nice when the cult comes in and backs up my argument without realizing it.
