I didnt intend to imply that she exclusively got to where she is based on her gender and race. I just wanted to point out that her gender and race were significant factors for her rise, something IceMage denied.

Imagine a world where Biden had chosen his VP without any regard for race and gender. Does anyone seriously think that his choice would have fallen on Kamala Harris in that scenario?

Tu quoque fallacy. Me blasting Harris for something that also applies to Trump might make me a hypocrite, or a partisan hack, but this hypocrisy/partisan bias doesnt render my criticism of Harris invalid.

If Biden could choose a man, I think he would have chosen Corey Booker. Kamala was going to be a top 5 VP pick REGARDLESS of the criteria. She's been described as the future of the party...

Yes, and I stand by the reasons I gave you for why she'd be a horrible pick. But those criticism I have against Whitmer are not why the Biden campaign didnt pick her. They shied away form her for unrelated reasons.

Gretchen "Karen-in-chief" Whitmer? U serious?

I personally think that an all-white ticket would be considered tone-deaf by many in the Democratic coalition in this particular moment in history

You are right, however, that Whitmer might be appealing to those very Trump-wary white suburban soccer moms.

reasons lol

I didn’t know being white qualifies you to be a “horrible” pick because that’s the only thing you mentioned iirc

... which brings me back to my initial point: "Harris stands for everything that's wrong with the contemporary Democratic party". ^_^

Let's just say that the way her presidential campaign flopped was not really supporting the idea that she might be the future of the party. But yeah, now that she has been nominated into a position where she has a decent chance of succeeding into the presidency outright, or will at least be the prohibitive frontrunner for the nomination in 2024, she might indeed be the future of the party.

Hmm, I wrote more about Whitmer, but probably somewhere else, not in the conversation with you.

Her issue (from Biden's pov) was not only being white in a moment where the party demanded a non-white VP, but also that she is the avatar of Karenism, that she ran on a decidedly moderate and pragmatic platform only to govern as an unabashed cookie-cutter liberal, that she took on some strong positions during the covid crisis that poll well right now, but might turn politically toxic in the future, and that she's really lacking executive and campaign experience on the national level.

Meh, they've been picking VPs based on weak states in the past. It's only logical to pick based on necessary demographics that aren't state specific since it will increase turnout in more states.

You can either choose between old boomer can't talk neo liberal corrupt man and middle aged woman of color neo liberal bad criminal justice record or trump reality tv star neo conservative puppet and milk toast conservative pray/shock the gay away pence.

This is the best America has to offer folks.

the vice presidency is largely ceremonial. choosing someone because they inspire voting of a key racial demographic and lacking executive experience arent really a factor for VP. all you want is a signal to the base, see Pence and his plain yogurt skin tone and bland "protect religious liberties" platform. yes pence has experience as a governor, no that doesnt really help much in VP duties.

IMO, AOC is what's wrong with the party as opposed to Harris but I'm vehemently anti progressive/populist.
