https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/politics-podcast-what-to-expect-from-the-iowa-caucuses/polling expert Nate Silver from 538 rails into the Des Moines Register/CNN/Seltzer & Co people for cancelling their final Iowa poll over the reported issues, saying that it seems like a drastic overreaction to him, and like the pollster gave in to pressure from the client or the public -which is basically the same thing I was saying all along.
also, the preliminary and uncomplete results we saw from Iowa yesterday seem to be in line with the results from this unpublished poll, with Sanders winning, Buttigieg doing really well and Biden doing very poorly.
well, afaik it was ONE participant that made a complaint to the buttigieg campaign, which then lead to the whole poll release / national reporting about it on CNN being canceled.
my question is if that is an even borderline proportionate response, how big of an impact would this specific alleged mistake potentially have had, and if i believe that the same would have happened if one of the interviewers had printed out their questionaire in slightly larger font and accidentally dropped bernie sanders name from the list when asking participant about their likely choice - and that is just incredibly difficult for me to imagine given everything i know about the DNC.
on its face i don't think you can fault the decision. assuming the complaint was genuine and true, and the investigation of it confirmed there was a real issue, you could always claim it's just hyper principled and fair to quite literally 'stop the presses' - but this just reeks of the establishment being the establishment. it's just the beginning of a long uphill fight of the people's vote against the dirty political tricks and mechanisms in place to keep washington in the grasp of the donor class.
