It goes a little something like this:

'Despicable communist murderers aren't bad because the US had wars too'

The us actually caused THESE wars.

Although any attempt to estimate a total number of killings under communist regimes depends greatly on definitions,[28] several attempts to compile previously published data have been made:

According to R. J. Rummel's book Death by Government (1994), about 110 million people, foreign and domestic, were killed by communist democide from 1900 to 1987.[29] In 1993, Rummel wrote: "Even were we to have total access to all communist archives we still would not be able to calculate precisely how many the communists murdered. Consider that even in spite of the archival statistics and detailed reports of survivors, the best experts still disagree by over 40 percent on the total number of Jews killed by the Nazis. We cannot expect near this accuracy for the victims of communism. We can, however, get a probable order of magnitude and a relative approximation of these deaths within a most likely range".[16]
In his introduction to the Black Book of Communism (1999), Stéphane Courtois gave a "rough approximation, based on unofficial estimates" approaching 100 million killed.[r] In his foreword to the book, Martin Malia noted "a grand total of victims variously estimated by contributors to the volume at between 85 million and 100 million".According to Benjamin Valentino in 2005, the number of non-combatants killed by communist regimes in the Soviet Union, People's Republic of China and Cambodia alone ranged from a low of 21 million to a high of 70 million.[t]Citing Rummel and others, Valentino stated that the "highest end of the plausible range of deaths attributed to communist regimes" was up to 110 million".[t][v]
In his book Red Holocaust (2010), Steven Rosefielde said that communism's internal contradictions "caused to be killed" approximately 60 million people and perhaps tens of millions more.[30]
In 2011, Matthew White published his rough total of 70 million "people who died under communist regimes from execution, labor camps, famine, ethnic cleansing, and desperate flight in leaky boats", not counting those killed in wars.[w]
In 2016, the Dissident blog of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation made an effort to compile updated ranges of estimates and concluded that the overall range "spans from 42,870,000 to 161,990,000" killed, with 100 million the most commonly cited figure.[x]
In 2017, Professor Stephen Kotkin wrote in The Wall Street Journal that communism killed at least 65 million people between 1917 and 2017: "Though communism has killed huge numbers of people intentionally, even more of its victims have died from starvation as a result of its cruel projects of social engineering".

Korea War, Spanish American War, US war in Philippines, British India Company, Congo diamond trade, cancer deaths due to smoking, construction of Panama canal, are probably putting up comparable numbers of deaths, all to open markets.

It's damn near impossible to put an accurate number on communism inspired death. I think it's foolish to think it's anything other than stupid high.

I don't understand why people think it works. I get it's cool and edgy to say unpopular things but fucking A. It's communism.

the crux of conversations about communism rest on a no true scotsmen fallacy. ala: "yes communism has failed, miserably, but that's not REAL communism".

it's both a fail by the anti-communist to call what has been labelled as communism communism, and a fail by the pro-communist to suggest real corruption free communism can exist.

communism invariably leads to cronyism and/or authoritarianism.

however, communism hasn't been entirely unsuccessful depending on what metric you use. China was a fairly successful communist state, brutal and authoritarian sure, but they smoothly transitioned into their modern socialist state on a pivot. and by linking science, business, and culture to the state they've made incredible progress. Russia isn't a real democracy, so even after their fall they really just rebranded. and in small populations communism works just fine, such as island nations with low population and simplified economies and worker roles.

communism as a system works fine in theory, but in reality people are too greedy. the only viable realistic communist state that could work would be algorithmic and run by a computer, not a human. and we're nowhere near that level of complex ai yet.

Fascism and free market fundamentalism isn't in the same boat?

Groups of men dominating and killing other men because they believe that their view on history as correct as in objective truth rather than situational advantage?

Fascism and free market fundamentalism have death tolls as high as communism. All three of these ideologies believe they have a definitive and correct objective view on history.

Karl Popper rightly traced these three ideologies back to their roots in Hegelian philosophy.

The person in the world doing the most to fight Communism fascism and free market fundamentalism is George Soros. The masters of these forces have done a pretty good job of demonizing this man to people who don't understand his work.

Scientism is the next ideology to share these totalitarian traits imo.

Fascism is tens of millions short.

On free market fundamentalism, my first thought is that it's not in the same boat as the other two at all. If we want to say that something as broad as "greed" has killed hundreds of millions, fine, but we might as well start defining "jealousy" and "pride" the same way.

Communism is a defined ideology with clear cut adherents who have gone on to commit some of worst, most unspeakable atrocities the human race has ever had the misfortune to witness. At its best, it produces technological stagnation and oppressive poverty. At its worst, it's genocide.

Fuck Marx, press "S" to spit on his grave.

Idk man. Ask around in what used to be the Soviet Union and there are plenty of folks who lived in it who yearn to be back in a communist society. And it's not out of some type of Stockholm Syndrome, and they weren't bigshots in the political system either. Life was actually better for them.

It ain't even close to being as black and white as you paint it out to be.

Stalin, Mao and his ilk have done atrocious things. But I don't see anyone here ever mentioning Churchill starving the entirety of the Bengal province of India (2.1m to 3m dead). Dude's widely acknowledged as one of Britain's greatest leaders. When he's actually a mass-murdering cunt on the same magnitude as Pol Pot. Similarly, the US-supported purges of communists in Indonesia by Suharto and his buddies, half a million to 3 million alone in that incident.

There is no need to make this a pissing contest, as capitalism has been around for longer than communism and will without question pee the farthest, even if you take the ludicrous numbers from the Black Book of Communism.
