You could put up a sign with just a red octagon and white border, with no words on it, and the vast majority of people would still know what it means. And TIL 911 has no other way of knowing where a location is (especially in this day and age), and ergo, the rights of hundreds of millions should be trampled on, all because you couldn't find an apartment in San Francisco decades ago.

Edit: Also, the average person isn't making stop signs anyway. It's (you guessed it) THE GOVERNMENT.

lol this. plenty of non english speakers recognize a stop sign by its shape and color.

thats why stop signs, yield signs, speed limits, etc all have distinct shapes and color schemes.

today you are the king of terrible examples that disprove your own posts. that's literally why the signs are how they are, to bridge languages.

The reason everyone knows it's a stop sign is BECAUSE it's standardized.
Which is the reason it's a good idea to have signs standardized. Like same, shape, same color, same language.



/e I mean if since the invention of the car if some red octagonal signs had said STOP, and others had said EL ALTO... we wouldn't have the clarity of recognition, we do today when we see a stop sign

Does a Halal restaurant need the same level of recognition as a street sign? You're conflating public signs put up by governmental entities with private signs put up by individuals or businesses.

yeah, if i saw a red octogan with no writing i'd probably just ram through the intersection, if it said alto i'd probably reverse and just blindy floor it. i couldnt figure out a 200 iq puzzle like that, just too hard.

i like how you shifted the goalposts from "should states be allowed to use non-english signs" all the way down to "a stop sign has to say stop, or else no one would know what to do".

maybe all stop lights need to be replaced, red and green arent enough, they need to say "GO" in green and "STOP" in red.
