It wasn't the war in and of itself that created ISIS. It was the De-Ba'athification of Iraq by Paul Bremer afterwards that led to the rise. Even GWB himself didn't want a complete removal of all Ba'ath Party elements after the fall of Sadaam. Yet Bremer went all out in the removal effort, and a ton of disaffected former Ba'ath suddenly had a chip on their shoulders and time on their hands.

If you knew the known history, and were able to put things into perspective, you would immediately understand that the country is strong and despite having been "taken" many times, it is still there amongst the leaders of the world.

Being a super power adds to political weight on a global stage, as far as actual all out war of who is the biggest, well. With the amount of nuclear weapons in each arsenal, I don't think it even matters anymore. If we speculated on a dooms day, USA, China, Russia would all destroy each other.
