sorry that I have to learn you history, that (small) part of france's history does not reflect any "global" or anything position, it just reflect some corrupted politics that sold their souls to nazis, nothing else.
It came from pretty much nowhere and nobody was ready for it.
If you knew the known history, and were able to put things into perspective, you would immediately understand that the country is strong and despite having been "taken" many times, it is still there amongst the leaders of the world.
