US was never meant to be a dept-er nation.

Few men wanting power over many men is what lead to the situation we're facing, our children will face, and our grandchildren will grow up in.

I agree, most of these student loans should have never been given out in the first place. It's an even bigger mistake to bill the taxpayer (many of whom PAID their own debts) to subsidize delinquents. The debtors must work to pay off their debt & manage their expenses like everyone else has ever done throughout history.

delinquents is a fun way to describe kids that were funneled into thinking they had to go to college or else they had no options. its funny that the same crowd that thinks having a book in the library about sex will ruin kids also thinks they should be immune to the entire education system all but forcing them into college. even when i graduated in 2007 it was 3 options, military, college, or start work in a factory. there was almost no information given on working in the trades, which is the best option overall for kids these days. if u didnt know a plumber or HVAC guy you likely didnt even know anything about the prospects of that path.

I'm saying delinquent in a technical manner. A delinquent is an entity that is not paying their debt.

We need to look at it holistically. What incentives are we realistically creating by waiving half a trillion in student debt? It would be an enormous boon to the educational establishment that's largely responsible for the ills you just highlighted.

College graduates tend to be high earners. It makes no sense, outside of clearly pandering to that demographic, to waive half a trillion in debt. I feel bad for the poor trade kid who passed on college to support his family. You're suggesting we pick his pocket to pay for a yuppie who can't control their Starbucks expenses.

It makes far more sense to help struggling students and graduates than it does to reward banks with taxpayer cash because they were over-leveraged and/or taking massive gambles
conservative hogs love to complain about Starbucks but I dont see you complaining about hundred billion dollar bailouts or tax handouts to the rich.

fair point. i still disagree that this debt is at all comparable to past generations people faced in terms of money management. my wife and my college payments are basically a mortgage on a quality home.
