correct, spread of the virus and concern for the most vulnerable arent the same.

It's not really a concern, it's just numbers; 10% of weak people quickly vaccinated will massively drop the death rate.
I have no idea how it will be possible to get it early if you can pay enough. In US.

Not everyone from the high risk groups (old + underlying conditions, say immunocompromised) will be able to get vaccinated; or the efficiency will be lower for them. Many of them can only be protected if everyone else is vaccinated and doesnt spread the virus to them. I dont think that we'll be out of the woods before most of the elderly plus all of the healthcare workers and caregivers have been vaccinated. Given how geriatric our societies are, we're talking about at least 25% of the overall population.

Y but US will still be glad to get a drop from like 2k to 500 people per day without pushing forward in more lockdown & restrictions.

OFC it's not the final solution, huu i means, it's just a big patch. Thus i have no idea how long it will take to vaccinate these 20 millions people: at least 3 weeks because of the two-doses innoculation.
Yeah, it will help but it will not be that brilliant, lets say it will reduce the death rate but not that fast and more like 50% after 2 months than 70-80%. Okay.

And Christmass... Will be be a pain in front of the pine.

First vaccinations != everything is well and dandy again.

It will take several months before the vaccinations have reached a sufficient share of the population to have an effect on the spread of the virus.

This might be true for NA and EU, but you're not gonna get very far in the Amazon basin or rural India/Africa on just dry ice. And even if you were able to ship the vaccines to some town in rural India with dry ice (which is a big if), you'd still need facilities which can store the vaccines at -80 for several days - and these facilities simply do not exist in the third world.

Thus, dro94 is right: being able to ship and store the Oxford vaccine at fridge temperature is huge because it makes their vaccine viable for most of the poorer countries.

I'm right on most of the big things - Coronavirus being a big deal, Man U going nowhere under Ole, Biden winning the election, Brexit deal to be passed (TBC)

Nope, sorry. Was too busy watching my hometown club Bayern Munich win 5 titles in one season. :P

Except for the "3rd world" where they've had an ebola outbreak, which needed -70C coolers. Africa is not one country ;)
And India does have a cold chain network, that dealt with the rotavirus. I'm not sure if that needed -70 of 2-8 C. But it looks like to just needs a small upgrade to distribute from the AstraZeneca factory in India. Imo that looks promising and I am a bit thrilled that AstraZeneca can make 3bil vaccines (for comparison: 1.3 for Pfizer/BioNTech and 500mil for Moderna) in 2021.

I personally think that you can actually get quite far with the 7 days of dry ice. (basically everywhere in the world). According to Pfizer, the dry ice can be refilled for 7 more days, and another 5 days at 2-8C. That's 19 days in total. With a bit of just in time management, instead of delivering everything at once, You'd have over a week to administrate a package anywhere in the most desolated area's in the world. But experts seem to disagree ^^. Eventually with the Oxford vaccine and many others to come, those areas will probably get a cheaper vaccine at lower transportation costs.

Dry ice in a cooler lasts like 5 days on a shelf. Longer in a normal freezer. India has a ton of pharma research conducted there. They absolutely have the infrastructure to transport something on dry ice. Africa is a similar, albeit more heterogeneous.

This is a pretty dumb take that assumes cars and coolers dont exist, or that it isn't easy to ship a medium size freezer, and that medical research only happens in the first world.
