When we suck the air out, we create a vacuum inside the straw. Water should weigh more inside the straw because it's in a "lighter" container, so it should never go up the straw. Hence, drinking through a straw should be impossible.
barometric pressure of the liquid vs the air - and basically your sucking air out of the straw and the liquid follows and the pressure to "level" returns when you break the seal on the straw
