Recent, preliminary studies contradict earlier fears about quickly waning immunity to covid, instead suggest a long-lasting immune response:

If confirmed, that's really great news and suggests that this virus should permanently lose its threat once the first round of vaccinations has been deployed.

That's good.

Quickly waning immunity was a worst case scenario, essentially ensuring that it never goes away and requiring several boosters just to maintain a non-pandemic level of spread.

Something else that's concerning though is your learned immunity isn't an immediate response. The second time you're exposed to something it can still take up to 2 weeks for your learned immunity to come to full force. And since Covid is contagious way before that, it would require many reexposures to get your immune system to a level of alertness that it would stop you from being contagious. So it's still possible you are a carrier and spreader even though you are immune, at least for a while until you've come into contact with the virus something ridiculous like 5 times.

I learned in medical school that everything you're taught about the immune system in high school is inaccurate. The immune system is like a term paper thrown together at the last minute, and if it goes even slightly out of wack it tanks your grade. Honestly it's a miracle that autoimmune disorders aren't way way more common.

I thoroughly believe that anybody who studies the immune system in depth can no longer believe in intelligent design.

while his constituents can be fined or jailed for not wearing a mask, having Thanksgiving with family, or operating an indoor lemonade stand, the Cali Governor Newsom (D) dines with 10+ people indoors without masks at a ultra luxury restaurant

he lied before saying it was a fully outdoor dinner. interesting outdoor scene. looks more like an indoor patio with a sliding door

update to this https://www.politico.com/states/california/story/2020/11/18/california-medical-association-brass-attended-french-laundry-dinner-with-newsom-kinney-1336924

California doctors' top brass attended French Laundry dinner with Newsom

OAKLAND — California Medical Association officials were among the guests seated next to Gov. Gavin Newsom at a top California political operative’s opulent birthday dinner at the French Laundry restaurant this month.

Quote
CEO Dustin Corcoran and top CMA lobbyist Janus Norman both joined the dinner at the French Laundry, an elite Napa fine dining restaurant, to celebrate the 50th birthday of lobbyist and longtime Newsom adviser Jason Kinney, a representative of the powerful interest group confirmed Wednesday morning.

Both Norman and Corcoran are friends of Kinney, as is Newsom, who referred this week to his 20-year friendship with Kinney. In a photo obtained by Fox LA, Norman is clearly visible seated to Newsom's left.

The presence of CMA brass could amplify criticisms of the dinner occurring despite coronavirus restrictions that have limited Californians’ movements and constrained businesses. While Newsom and Kinney’s lobbying firm have said the meal abided by public health rules, it has struck a chord with Californians who have assailed the upscale soiree as hypocritical as coronavirus cases surge.

The state has issued guidelines prohibiting more than three households from gathering privately — a limit clearly exceeded by the French Laundry dinner. However, the state has intentionally allowed restaurants to seat people from more than three households together

so the governor of Cali and top medical professionals in Cali can flout their own rules, but if you have grandma over for Thanksgiving or are a minority operating a family store, you can be fined or sent to prison.

Regarding the bolded part: we have pretty solid data and evidence showing that the contagiousness of an infected person is directly linked to the viral load in his/her body. Even if the immune system needs some ramp up time to get into full swing, an immune response at X% (0 < X < 100) should still keep the viral load lower than in a person without immunity, and thus reduce contagiousness.

Furthermore, the available data with have so far suggests that asymptomatic cases are responsible for only a very tiny fraction of the spread; the big drivers of this pandemic are the symptomatic and the presymptomatic carriers. Persons who were vaccinated should have a much higher likelihood of experiencing an asymptomatic course of the disease upon reinfection.

The point of my post is mostly that you should take nothing for granted about the immune system. It is not a given that it ever works the way we are taught it should
