He's taking the perspective of greater suffering

and this would be saying that "being alive for 1 day of suffering and 20000 healthy days" is worse than being dead
Being tortured is a better fate than being dead

That depends. Suppose the torture leaves them mentally and emotionally scarred, unable to live a normal life and with passive PTSD so they can't sleep at night.

Also, we don't know what happens when we die, so it's not considerable in the suffering equation.

I'd bet you'd be surprised tbh. There are a lot of college educated sex workers. Can't imagine how you'd get an accurate measure, obvs, but it's pretty popular among college students.

Easy way to make extra cash without having to give up too much time. Easier than juggling a real job and university for sure. Also a lot more emotionally damaging.

Depends on the person, really. Lots of folks fuck their way through college without getting paid.

I don't think we should ignore the fact that some college girls take jobs where they're treated like objects, their personhood ignored and neglected and shit upon for some transient benefit to their customers, of course, but I admit I gave no solution to make retail jobs any better. :(

Then they're free seek counselling and return to a normal productive life, unlike the dead.
Suppose the torture leaves them without a foot. Thats a form of damages, separate of the suffering. Dismemberment is then a different consideration to torture- it could have been done painlessly after all.

Sure we do, you cease to exist, you're dead, you lose conscienceless permanently and your body gradually decays.
No reasonable system of law can be formed on the basis of superstition, might as well be Sharia at that point

This is clearly correct IMO. At least the second statement seems obvious, the first is debatable.

If a 24 year old woman is tortured, its a tragedy, but she gets up the next day, maybe through rehabilitation, but in time she's back to living a normal life, and she'll have 60 healthy and productive years ahead of her
If a 24 year old woman is strangled to death, the rest of her life is gone. Having a relatively swift death is no consolation prize, what did it matter how much it hurt?

It mattered crucially how much it hurt. The transience of the experience has no bearing on its significance, everything is transient.
