I hope those cops or the city they hail from doesn't think they are better protection than the secret service.
As for the crowds.... the cops can arrive early or late, if they're needed. That's up to them.
What's next...if a fire happens to start at the rally, the fire dept. will charge too?
This is not how the system works. Despite the fact that some cities have been trying to grab part of the campaign funds for years now.
You know me... I stick up for the boys in blue. But this is wrong.
I guess Trump can always bring the National Guard if needed. IMO, this is just more politics. Like Minneapolis trying to charge Trump AFTER they already made a contract. If a city wants to charge for a police presence, they should say so up front.
it's the job of the fire dept to put out fires, it's NOT the job of police to provide event security. that isn't their job. they investigate law breaking, that's what the job of the police is.
a factually correct version of what you said would be "what's next, cops aren't going to put out fires?"
as to cops charging, all cops should charge for all events imo. if they're there not to investigate crimes they aren't doing work for the taxpayers, it's for the event. it's really that simple.
the problem is in many cities police are allowed to attend events in their official capacity (ability to wear uniform and gun, and arrest people) on a voluntary basis. if Trump can find enough cops to do that, fine. in any city in america he can ask. if they dont have the staff he requires then he needs to pay. and it's up to the discretion of any chief of police to tell officers they cant volunteer to be at an event in their official capacity if they choose. some chiefs wont let cops direct traffic from churches, some wont let cops show up to protect KKK rallies, etc.
now let's set aside the storm of semantics that will follow. answer one simple question, do you believe that taxpayer money should be spent to send cops to do event security?
