4 hours ago, The Atlantic tried its hand at stabbing Trump before the election
https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2024/10/trump-military-generals-hitler/680327/They printed an article claiming Trump had offered to pay for the funeral costs of a fallen US army private Vanessa Guillen, but when he received the bill they claim he said;
Quote
Trump became angry. “It doesn’t cost 60,000 bucks to bury a fucking Mexican!” He turned to his chief of staff, Mark Meadows, and issued an order: “Don’t pay it!” Later that day, he was still agitated. “Can you believe it?” he said, according to a witness. “Fucking people, trying to rip me off.”
Meanwhile, they received statements from both Mayra Guillen, the sister of the soldier who said Trump was respectful and supportive at all times, and from Trump's campaign spokesman who said people who were actually in the room that day denied the Atlantic's account and said Trump declared he wanted her death labeled as 'in the line of duty' so she'd have full military honors and benefits. The Atlantic responded to the sister's statement by insinuating it was written by Trump's campaign and fabricated, saying "Pfeiffer told me that he did not write that statement, and emailed me a series of denials."
Now take a step back. The Atlantic just ran this story, 4 hours ago, openly challenging the sister's statement as a fabrication by the Trump campaign
What's the first thing that happened? Her family spoke out. Immediately. Saying The Atlantic is full of shit, that Trump was gracious to them and they just voted for him
Its 2024, she has a twitter account, she can respond in real time:

Wow.
I don’t appreciate how you are exploiting my sister’s death for politics- hurtful & disrespectful to the important changes she made for service members. President Donald Trump did nothing but show respect to my family & Vanessa. In fact, I voted for President Trump today.
You can't just public articles lying about people like this and expect to get away with it. What's the fucking game plan from The Atlantic here? They clearly never reached out to the family for comment, they didn't vet their story whatsoever. They just figured they'd pick up a big ball of shit and throw it at Trump to smear him even without even a pretense of journalistic ethics or vetting their sources.
