To be fair: experience from across Europe shows that without extra pressure, vaccine uptake gets stuck at around ~65-70% of the total population fully vaccinated in most countries. Governments tried to impose various restrictions for the unvaccinated, mandate the use of covid passports or even issue an outright vaccine mandate to get this rate any higher. The corresponding rate in the U.S. stands at 60%, so the gap in vaccine uptake caused by failed political leadership is not as huge as you Americans might think. Even without Trump's and, to a lesser extent, Democrats antics, a country with a mentality like the U.S. wouldn't have gotten higher than these 65-70% without some form of soft or hard coercion.
