Trump bombed at that IAVA forum but fortunately for him Matt Lauer did such a truly terrible job hosting it that so much of the attention is being focused on him and his failures rather than on Trump and his answers. It seems Trump's suggestion that he'd pure the officer corps, which really rankled the military, and him trying to defend that tweet suggesting that females in the armed services should anticipate getting raped are about the only thing that sent up red flags immediately after the event.

All of these problems are directly because the previous THREE DEMOCRAT governors drove NJ to MORBID bankruptcy with embezzlement of state money. I wouldn't expect anyone to know a good deal about it unless you lived here though.
NJ is far above the national average for work participation rate as well, so you're DEAD WRONG there.
Not sure how you can blame Christie's slashing of revenues (and shifting of the tax burden through his specific arrangement of tax cuts for the purpose of helping him seek higher office), his vetoes, all of the credit downgrades, HIS pension framework agreement, post-recession job creation, Kaci Hickox, him spending most of his second term out of the state, and his entire second term being one of complete gridlock on account of investigating the scandal(s) that were perpetrated by people in his office on anyone other than him, but I don't blame you for trying.
As far as the other bad grades: low economic growth, obscene tax bills, sluggish job creation, yes these are things that have been a systemic problem for a the state; they've continued to be a problem while he's served and have either stayed the same or worsened. He's just added all the problems that have come as a result of his administration on top of them. a problem or worsened.
