I feel like ceding the region would demonstrate profound weakness. Granted, I find it difficult to think like a Russian or Ukrainian so maybe I'm way off base there. As an American, I only know how to think like a winner and I struggle to think like a citizen who hails from an inferior country.

If you didn't follow the events in 2014-2015, then you have no idea about anything and certainly shouldn't be commenting on complex geopolitical affairs

If you must know, there was a CIA-orchestrated coup in Kiev, Ukraine in early 2014 which used mainly Ukraine's ultra-far right nazi groups to overthrow the government. They took the worst of the most violent criminals in the country and used them. These people then took over. They then began to slaughter any civilians that didn't agree with the coup, which led to a civil war.




It is not possible for Ukraine to control the region because nobody in Donbass wants to be ruled by fascist shitpiles. Ukraine can have control if and only if they commit mass genocide, which they already tried to do and failed.

Americans shouldn't be supporting fascists in the Ukraine merely because they're useful pawns in a proxy war that America never should have started in the first place.

Ukraine's "army", mainly nazi battalions like Azov and Right Sector and others, (look up pictures of them online, these guys are covered in swastikas) went on a huge killing spree after taking power in 2014.

They massacred over 50 thousand of their own nations civilians with indiscriminate airstrikes and artillery. The eastern portion of Ukraine then took up arms to defend themselves, using mainly weapons from Soviet era weapons dumps that were spread out all over the country at the time.

The western media then claimed East Ukraine's aka Donbass' self-defense as a "Russian invasion", which was totally imaginary. The rebels received no direct military support from Russia other than some supplies sent over from the border. Russian troops did not participate in any of the battles.

I followed many of the battles at the time by the way, they were all well documented, and also extremely bloody. Ukraine's army could not fight well outside of the Nazi groups, as the regular military was very very corrupt and did not have much morale.

The Nazi battalions were slowly eradicated on the frontline, and then the regular Ukrainian army collapsed shortly after. It was around this time that Ukraine, realizing it lost the war, signed a peace agreement brokered by Russia.

Ukraine spent the past 4-5 years rearming and now wants to try to re-invade. It has broken the peace agreement that they themselves signed. Difference is now, though, Russia has finally gotten fed up with their shit and has warned they will use missiles on any Ukrainians that try to attack Donbass.

This has led to the current crisis, with US warhawks acting like morons, threatening the whole planet with nuclear annihilation to defend an evil and disgusting regime in Ukraine which is responsible for murdering thousands of innocent people.

McCain & the secretary of state at the time (Victoria Nuland) were literally on the ground in Ukraine in 2014 giving orders to the militants as they threw molotovs, encouraging them and giving them support from on the ground.

The coup was entirely 100% set-up by washington, and it was by the way one of the most blatant US-backed regime change operations of all time, with literal US diplomats on the ground giving orders to protestors as they burned their own city to the ground.

So if Biden is asking Ukraine to cede territory, then that means the crisis is effectively over. I'm guessing the faction consisting of warhawks and neocons will not be happy with Biden.

It's kind of a surprise, I thought Biden would be much stupider than this, but I guess everyone has to admit reality sooner or later when the options are literally start WW3 or back down.
