Can someone tell me why parents are troubled by vaccines that have been used for 50+ years, baby food that isn't organic, hypoallergenic and chemical free soaps/shampoos and clothes/blankets, but will they let their kid play in the neighborhood with 50 other kids, have birthday parties, let other people hold them/kiss them, etc.? Like I get that very few kids have actually died/gotten sick from Coronavirus, but the "what the fuck will happen to kids down the road that get coronavirus" factor should matter to parents who are petrified of their kids not eating fully organic because additives deemed to be safe by the FDA actually might not be right?

I am just perplexed by this notion and need someone to explain it to me.

To be fair we are fucked from a health care perspective

Nursing shortage across the country

Traveling nurses are being hired everywhere increasing the price and poorer health systems cannot get their hands on nurses because every place in the country is hiring traveling nurses right now

The next 2 months look bleak/hopeless. I know we have been saying it’s going to be bad for some time ... but now that we are in it, yeah it’s going to be bad

We are getting slaughtered here in Southern Ohio. I don't want to be specific but we have multiple full service hospitals all with ICUs within about a 50 mile radius in my system here, with my ER having over a dozen people medical beds, and every bed in the system full except 4 non ICU across town, and I'm sure the other ERs have people sitting on the floor because there are no seats. There can be up to 50 people on the ER board at a time any given time. People who have been there 30 years say they've never seen anything like this. My friends in other systems around here are telling me they are seeing similar things. Imagine graduating from nursing school into this? So many people I know have gotten sick. We felt terrible for a bit but my wife and I tested neg, my son positive, weird. Mike Dewine got on TV and said WEAR A MASK. IT IS VETERANS DAY, PEOPLE HAVE SACRIFICED MORE FOR THEIR COUNTRYMEN. GOLDEN RULE OHIO. Some people are saying he would be taking more authoritarian measures (not in those words) but he is already threatening to fine businesses that allow unmasked people in their areas, which just seems like a dangerous precedent to set for service employees. I just respond with 'he can't' because I'm a civil libertarian and that is how we roll.

Keep calm and carry on. Wear a mask when around others you don't basically live with, wash your hands, take care of yourselves.

We are not supposed to get tested unless symptomatic to avoid that. If you work in a hospital you have a lot of foul shit living in your body, like colonized MRSA for example. We're gross. The mask is for you lol.

Things are weird. We are doing a lot of disaster planning. If it gets too bad we will have a covid psych ward and a non covid psych ward. We could put the covid positive nurses there lol. We have to keep delivering services, our patients are essential. I know it sounds cheesy but its real.

I get that things are really bad right now, and that drastic measures seem inevitable in many parts of the U.S.

But this doesnt address the point excellence brought up, which is that the whole "flatten the curve"-rhetoric at the beginning of the pandemic was utterly dishonest. Those in power knew that they had no fucking plan on how to keep the spread controllable after the initial spring lockdowns, knew that life would not be back to any semblance of normality for 12++ months. Governments used this "soon, things will be back to relatively normal, will be fine again"-rhetoric to increase compliance during the first wave, but they destroyed a lot of crucial trust in the process.

The early rhetoric about "2 weeks to flatten the curve" did not pan out all across the West, this phenomenon is not exclusive to the U.S. We cannot just blame the fact it did not pan out on Trump's singular ineptitude since it didnt pan out elsewhere either, even in the places where the government listened to the experts.

The current front runner for a covid vaccine, the one developed by Pfizer/BioNTech, uses a novel mRNA approach which, to the best of my knowledge, has never been used on the general population.

not exclusively, that is true. but you know i know that, and you know that's not what i'm saying. i'm saying that messaging like that is designed and intended to further undermine the scientific consensus, and that's why you're trying to muddy the water - because your side happens to be the one doing that. keep hacking.

yeah exactly zero have been approved by the fda, that doesn’t mean people shouldn’t strongly consider the vaccine though

We never really gave "flatten the curve" a chance here. Europe might be on their second wave, it has been one continuous wave here in the United States. It has just been escalating since March with a small lull in some geographical areas where it became less acute for awhile. The idea that we are on the second wave is what is dishonest I think.

Even if there was no concrete plan after Spring lockdowns sometimes you just have to move the goalpost. People are really banking on technology saving us, in testing and vaccines. Everyone talking about how "Cuomo fucked up" but nursing homes are infected in most states, hospitals are full, how can people say Cuomo fucked up at this point if what happened is inevitable. If Cuomo fucked up and we know better now where are the extra beds needed to care for these people and where are the extra staff at? We are getting emailed asking us to come in to be sitters and answer phones on our off time. Did Cuomo fuck up or was he just the first? I don't think he was treated fairly and people who are wrathful of him simply do not understand levels of care (LOC) in hospitalization and why would they?

Yes I agree there is a lot of magical thinking. We had one task, figure out how to keep doing business in this environment, and instead we had a trainwreck of an anti-mask movement telling people this is fake. My QAnon friend who I can't have normal conversations with anymore says via Alex Jones only 12,000 have died of covid. Alex Jones is a serious figure on the right now...and why not, steve bannon was in the fucking WH.

Literally not even remotely close to what I was asking. I meant vaccines like dtap.
