I'll take your word for it. Back right before the Brexit vote I got the impression that the UK was pissed about all the immigrants, they had to take.
I don't really know UK or EU law, it was just what I thought at the time.
Brexit was about many things, including the free movement of people which is supplying British businesses with practically limitless, low-cost labour. People, rightly or wrongly believe that this contributes to keeping wage growth low. While some may have voted for brexit based on the "refugee crisis", it is highly unlikely that it was a sizable reason for the vote, since it was made crystal clear before the vote that we don't take any refugees we don't want to.
Don't need to take my word for it, those are the rules:
Britain has won a significant carveout from new EU rules on asylum seekers that will allow the UK to continue expelling migrants that arrive via other EU countries.
Under plans announced on Wednesday by the European Commission to overhaul Europe’s much-criticised rules on asylum seekers, most EU countries would be required to participate in a new quota system that would force them to accept migrants if a front-line state becomes overwhelmed, as Italy and Greece were at the height of the refugee crisis. Failure to comply would result in fines of €250,000 per person.
But in a boost for David Cameron, prime minister, Britain would be allowed to opt out of the quota system and continue with current rules that allow for expulsions.
