Your writing style is hilarious (loaded into a GTA server).
I lived in Chicago 10 years, left in 2020. Edgewater, Lakeview, with most of my time in Streeterville. Also lived in Naperville but found it boring. Shame that it's in such bad shape nowadays.
I would likely want to live in a highrise again (that is the main appeal of Chicago living) since it's so cheap.
You don't think the crime is overblown though? Like statistically isn't the risk still pretty small? I guess that doesn't even matter, I wouldn't want to take the risk.
There is a subreddit for Chicago and they literally ban people for talking about crime. So I visit the "CrimeinChicago" subreddit now and then and it's just crazy story after crazy story.
Ahhh ok nice to know you aren't a total newcomer to the city. At least you probably have enough self-awareness to know where you "shouldn't be". That being said there are crazy motherfuckers everywhere and they've never been as emboldened to commit crimes because they literally get "outta jail for free cards". The immigrants who commit crimes aren't even booked in most cases and so one of the major issues now like I mentioned is ruthless Latin American gangs getting bused into the city amongst actual refugees and them extorting those people by threatening their family back in their home country. Just like the videos you see out of Boulder, Colorado they've just taken control of the migrant centers and any "free housing" making it their own with violence.
The high rises are the safest but for every "story" you hear on the news know that there are 10 more that didn't get reported. This goes to the whole notion of "gang on gang crime" goes unreported entirely but innocent people are still killed in the crossfire or just constantly in the "worst case scenario".
My whole thing is be safe, carry a weapon, and make sure your 6th sense is ON because it really is the wild wild west out there. You could do everything right and have no problems with anyone for a year and then one random day you are walking home from the gym and some 12 year old kid pulls a gun on ya. It's no joke.
Chicago may say you only have a 1% chance of being robbed/assaulted/etc. but if you walk down the same street 100x one of those times you are going to get "fucked with". It's totally random but them just spitting out numbers like "crime is down year over year" that's them manipulating the statistics.
Look at the "Shotspotter" that was installed throughout the city to detect gunshots that was just discontinued for being "racist software". Because all the shootings were mostly black on black in bad neighborhoods on the southside they said the software was inherently racist and that police were going there to "arrest blacks only". How dumb is that. Technology that lets police know where a gun shot went off so that they can respond quicker is "discontinued" because it's "racist".
You'll then hear the people in that area that supported the "Shotspotter" like "WTF would you rather have a few cops just roll into the area where shots were fired or have ZERO response". Of course most the people are like "we need this!" but the Chicago government said it's too expensive and racist. The company then offered "Shotspotter" at a sharp discount because they wanted to help and the Mayor was like "fuck it it's racist".
This is how you know the city is corrupt and the lying never stops.
If you are considering living in the skyscrapers I have a lot of friends who live near the Gold Coast and they never say shits sketchy but it's relatively expensive.
Nothing wrong with living in the burbs where you don't have to worry about any of that shit and the worst thing you have to do is commute 30 minutes(if you work downtown). If you work remote and don't really need to leave your place then you'll rarely run into thugs unless like I said "wrong place wrong time" or your out at the bar at night and walk home alone(better be carrying).
Chicago is safe for no one at night no matter where you are at. Always be in a group when you are out at night. Common sense don't walk down a dark alley at midnight lol
