if it wasn’t so sad it would be interesting seeing the non-stop hypocrisy over the next couple months on this front

While very promising and exciting. It takes 28 days to get this immunity with the schedule.

I don’t think this changes dark winter but I am hopeful spring time we can get back to a more normal life!

Was there any chance a vaccine could solve our troubles with this winter? At the earliest, it would take until some point in December to get FDA approval, then it would take another 1-2 months at the minimum to produce and distribute the vaccine in relevant quantities, and then another couple of months until there is enough vaccine-induced herd immunity that covid restrictions could safely be dropped.

The best possible scenario was probably to get ~10-15% of the population vaccinated before the end-of-winter wave hits in late February/early March, but the timeline for that was always daunting.

It would still be a huge relief for the world if we could get back to relatively normal by, say, June. And it's great for the morale of the people if there's a clear timeline for when this shit will be over.

if we can vaccinate the elderly and frontline health care workers we can get back to 90% normal. then if we get the asthmatic, diabetic, etc type people next we can get back to 95% normal.

food industry and shop workers are likely stuck in masks for the next few years, and ill continue to wear my mask in stores also. but as far as what's open, and stopping social gatherings, once the elderly get it we're good.

optimistic to think it can happen in 3 months, but with each day more and more regions will be guarded.

already been said will have to do masks for at least 2022 even with a working vaccine :( fucking hate masks but if vaccine stops from lockdowns again guess good enough :) just can't wait till can stop wearing masks :P but also hope see more people wear them during flu season since seems keep that low :)

I'd add to this: the political circumstances may have worked out fairly fortuitously, here. Trump/Pence are claiming credit for the vaccine. But Biden/Harris are taking over. Both sides are going to have some trusted voices promoting the vaccine as being a Good Thing.

Hopefully Trump takes full credit for any vaccines, that way his cult might actually take them. Although it's best to always assume the worst about Trump, so he'll most likely do his best to undermine a vaccine. Helping kill tens of thousands during his presidency won't be enough... he needs to keep the death count going after he leaves office.
