As for your college classes, you get what you pay for. I imagine you're attending a research university where teaching isn't the number one priority. You can't expect the professor to do that sort of menial work....they have to run their labs and produce research. I recommend going to your professor's office hours if you want legitimate feedback on your work. That's probably your best bet.

Interesting, do you think research universities generally have lower teaching quality? I'd always had feeling that research universities were more likely to be better on the teaching side of things, but I've never thought of it the opposite way.

Generally speaking, yes. I think it's extremely difficult to produce great research (which is what brings in money) and make sure that all the students are actually learning the material.
