there is a difference between say spending estimates to be off by 30%, as i almost expect this with our government, versus he total doozy of a own-goal saying it will cost $0 when that isn’t mathematically possible

raise more revenue lol you mean tax me and you more.

Well yea? That's how it works. We're not fucking freeloaders like the rust belt white trash heroin addicts, ghetto ass blacks, etc. are we? But yea, there seems to be quite a bit of variance between the CBO and the Treasury Department's estimates.

cut more is a better alternative. taxing me and you more isn’t going to cover the gap that was said to not even exist when they were pushing this monstrosity

They've been saying that they'd run out for literal months...don't you remember the whole thing with McConnell refusing to help the Dems raise the debt ceiling?

The reality is that states like Texas and Florida are unlikely to take the money to fund pre-school, childcare, etc. so it will probably work out in the end

I'm of the opinion they should cut the child tax credit....it's EASILY the most expensive part of the bill and it only lasts an additional year. To me, getting rid of the tax credit entirely and giving seniors dental is significantly better policy.

Ted Cruz being scum doesn't change the fact that Garland has revealed himself to be a partisan hack in recent months, something that many on the right always suspected, but couldn't prove based on his comparatively moderate judicial track record.

For an example, look at my previous post in which I linked a scathing statement by the Judiciary Committee. It questions Garland's sworn testimony that counterterrorism was not used to target concerned parents (angry over CRT, mask mandates, school closures and all that stuff) in light of recent whistleblower evidence showing that Garland himself has issued an order to the FBI to create a new counterterrorism 'threat tag' category for these parents and investigate them accordingly (i.e. as domestic terrorists).

But sure, I must be a gullible fool falling for witless Breitbart-level propaganda when I question the narrative that Garland is a super moderate.

Just because you don't agree with him doesn't make him a partisan hack lol. Also, you're not a gullible fool for questioning the narrative that Garland is super moderate either. He's NOT moderate and that was never my point. You're a gullible fool because you eat up right wing propaganda without questioning it. You consistently fail to perform a very simple exercise: if you don't like what a Democrat is doing, would you be okay with a Republican doing it? It's a shame too because I thought you were making progress in being consistent but you seem to be seriously regressing.

Since I started politics, the AG has ALWAYS been a target for the opposition. Anyway, I sort of roll my eyes at anything that comes from the Republicans on the Judiciary Committee because they actually ARE a bunch of hacks. Jim Jordan wrote that letter and you should have a look at some of the members on that committee: Biggs, Gaetz, Gohmert, etc. Those guys are some of the biggest clowns in Washington. Anyway, I find it really strange that you're okay with a small number of parents threatening to decapitate, rape, etc. teachers over policy disagreements. I thought you had more sense than that but perhaps there really are too many Muslims in your country and you've become numb to those kind of threats. Don't conflate the parents who are upset and expressing their frustration with people who are making legitimate threats. Maybe they are the same to you, but they seem very different to me.

My stance on Garland is that he should respond to the letter to clear up any sort of confusion.

There is a huge difference between consistence and both-sideism. One can be consistent and have a clear partisan stance at the same time.
It is actually you who's turning a blind eye to the potentially outrageous abuse of the DoJ by an AG that this case presents. You are the one who's failing the "would you be okay with the other side doing it"-test.

I'll concede on Jordan/Gaetz/Gohmert. The more important point is the bolded though. Do we have any proof that only parents who made criminally relevant threats were tagged as terrorists by the FBI?

What makes this whole issue so fishy in my eyes is that Garland started recommending to treat protesting parents as domestic terrorists after that situation in VA where the father of a girl who was raped in the bathroom by a transgender co-ed blasted the responsible school board which had tried to cover the incident up (we have hard proof for that), which sparked a wave of outrage by parents and came at a very inopportune time during the VA gubernatorial race.

We really must draw a line between frustrated parents (keep in mind VA had very long school closures due to covid) venting and those who are making legitimate threats. Signalling to angry parents of all stripes that they might end up on no fly lists and shit like that was an escalation which went way overboard; also, it seems to have been a deliberate attempt at achieving a chilling effect on parent protests. This reeks of an attempt at quelling the formation of another conservative grass roots movement.

Add the potential for perjury/lying under oath to the list and Garland should be a goner if even half of these accusations can be corroborated. He really has some clarifying to do.
