https://blog.twitter.com/en_us/topics/company/2021/private-information-policy-updateTwitter has changed its rules and added a new line which says it is "
A violation of policy to post media of private individuals without the permission of the person(s) depicted."
Naturally, this includes 95%+ of all images of people on twitter, ie anything but a celebrity.
And as such, twitter has laid out right in the blog post that they will selectively apply this rule as they see fit, rather than any objective criterion;
Quote
When we are notified by individuals depicted, or by an authorized representative, that they did not consent to having their private image or video shared, we will remove it. This policy is not applicable to media featuring public figures or individuals when media and accompanying Tweet text are shared in the public interest or add value to public discourse.
We will always try to assess the context in which the content is shared and, in such cases, we may allow the images or videos to remain on the service. For instance, we would take into consideration whether the image is publicly available and/or is being covered by mainstream/traditional media (newspapers, TV channels, online news sites), or if a particular image and the accompanying tweet text adds value to the public discourse, is being shared in public interest, or is relevant to the community.
In other words, they will ban you for posting images of Hunter Biden doing cocaine. They will ban you for posting images of Antifa rioting in public. They will ban you for posting images that go against their political narratives, what
they believe is the "public interest"
But at the same time, they'll allow pictures of Trump kids and Jan 6th rioters and whatever else suits their agenda, even if its under completely identical circumstances.
Its pretty bold that they are actually codifying a rule that says pretty much all content is in violation but only if going to be applied on an arbitrary basis.
