Trump has said crazy shit for 10 years so I think it's harder to recognize decline for him. He'll have to pull a full-blown Biden in a debate for people like yourself to recognize his decline.

I've always said, why should we grade on a curve? Trump's craziness deserves as much scrutiny as his elderliness or potential dementia. In fact, more. I'd be more comfortable with a government run by an elderly man with dementia than a certified crazy person.

Regarding your second point: Trump has already been president before and the results speak for themselves, for better or worse. His alleged craziness didn't cause him to crash the economy like they predicted at the start of his term, it didn't cause him to trigger WW3 like some ill-intentioned pundits believed, he didn't abuse the justice system to go after his opponents, he didn't try to censor speech and he didn't try to erect a white ethnostate either. He failed to rise to the occasion during unique circumstances in 2020, and got booted from office accordingly - but that had nothing to do with craziness.
