still doesn't explain his use of plural in 'german armies' and 'russian winters', which made me question his history knowledge in the first place, as there was 'only' one instance.

oh, and nice anecdote about american education there. the reality: https://thehill.com/opinion/education/411700-when-it-comes-to-knowledge-of-american-history-we-are-a-nation-at-risk
i'd LOVE to see a similar survey about european history, which is a much smaller focus to begin with - and then juxtapose it with your 'we learn all of that in middle-high school' claim.

learning and retention aren't the same thing. we do learn it, not many retain it. let alone for any given amount of time.

how many people do you think can do a basic algebraic problem at age 40, in america or europe for that matter. and by basic i dont mean one variable garbage that's not even algebra. i mean something that requires you to remember something like the quadratic formula and how to use it. not many im sure. but history is easier to remember than math, especially with a few cues. and european history are the most popular college history electives by a long shot, people flock to those courses, then forget after finals are done.

napoleon and hitler falling to the russian winter is basically a pre-meme tho. you'd see it referenced on forums all the time for years, and still do. its not a fringe bit of knowledge.

oh, and nice goal post move from 'middle-high school' to 'college history electives' - so now you assume that santa is a european history graduate?

goal post moves? calm down sparky. we learn about european history in middle school, AND high school, AND many go on to take courses in college. nothing has changed about my claim, just more context.

i took 2 classes in european history, and im a criminal justice major. u take US history as a requirement for all majors, then can elect to take more to meet the # of "social science" credits for your major. its flexible. you dont need to be a history graduate to know napoleon fucked up in Russia.

Why isnt GWB in the Hague? Why are him and Cheney and Rumsfield laughing at us?

The situation I was referring to was Russian aggression in Ukraine, not Syria. What did you expect Europe to do? Are the Europeans really 'castrated' if they dont deploy several divisions to fight head on against Russian soldiers at the Russian doorstep?

The bonk-smiley was meant as an approving way of saying "oh screw you (that one hit home)". Baffling how much misunderstanding and drama can come out of a simple smiley.

maybe, and stick with me here, his not much thinking about it is exactly what exposed his ignorance concerning the history of that 'joke' - since none of your essays actually offers an explanation, just excuses. i have no idea why YOU are so defensive about his poor grasp of history, but it's really amusing...

im defensive? i was just trying to have a conversation with you about european history and you started "making claims" about another person's knowledge then went all "goalposts" on me.

i will not make the mistake of just trying to have a frank conversation with you again for a while, dont worry.

Plural is accurate though. The Eastern Front for the Germans composed three army GROUPS, each consisting of multiple armies, that fought over multiple winters. The worst were undeniably the winter of 1941 at the gates of Moscow, where Stalin even insisted that his armies make a stand on the same field that Napoleon was defeated on, even though his generals insisted it wasn't tactically important, not defensible, but they did anyways and lost. The next was the winter of 1942, where army group B (mainly the 6th army and 4th panzer army) was attempting to take Stalingrad. Even in 1942, the German army was poorly equipped for winter combat, and as winter set in, the Germans (who had already captured about 90% of the city) were poorly prepared - and when the Soviets crushed the Romanians on their flanks and enveloped them in Stalingrad, winter did most of the rest. I bet you even know how many of those Germans survived the war (it wasn't many).

/e never mind the fact that the German army in the winter comment wasn't even directed at you, and the comment that was directed at you went ignored.

that's really funny considering your very first post in this 'conversation' was an incorrect, bad faith characterisation of what i actually said: "Fender is claiming Santara doesnt know about Napoleon" is simply not true.

of course i can't force you to engage me honestly, i just don't want you to kid yourself into thinking you did. you were defensive and biased on santa's behalf from the get go, and i guess telling some inconvenient truths about the american educational system didn't exactly help to remedy that...
