I don't think they will ever admit just ONE new state. I think they will do it in multiples of two, so as not to mess up the stars on the flag. :)

That's not really necessary (even though it should happen). 51 stars will look fine: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/51st_state

They could make DC REALLY small (White House, Capitol, memorials, etc.) and make the rest a state.

DC will never be a state. Puerto Rico is fine, perhaps it's also time to start carving up California.
