Germany has been the leader of the crippling sanctions that Europe imposed on Russia in the aftermath of their annexation of Crimea - and it's mostly driven by our political leadership.
Our business community doesnt like those sanctions at all, and in fact, out of all EU countries, Germany is the one whose economy is taking the biggest hit from these sanctions. We're sacrificing quite a bit to rein Russia in to the best of our ability.

Furthermore, it should be easy to understand that Russia cant be stopped by sanctions alone, that they only truly back down in reaction to actual strength, to military power and its projection. For Germany to deter Russia from fucking with its neighbors, Germany would need a much more mighty military. I really dont think that's something the rest of the world is eagerly awaiting.

Sanctions lol. I'll kick your peasants, fuckers!

Europe is so castrated lol.

"Crippling sanctions and a strongly worded letter to the editor".

So effective during the Syrian Civil War. Europe watched Russia rape and pillage, barrel bombs on hospitals, chemical warfare...why isn't Assad in the Hague? Why is he and Putin laughing at us and you?

What? Jokes about the Russian winters killing German armies isn't on point?

Lol. Germans taking their cues from British bobbies: "Stop! Or I'll say 'stop!' again!"

it was entirely on point. unfortunately, your poor history knowledge didn't allow you to quite get it though.

let me explain: the joke about russian winters killing armies is not exclusively about germany: it also refers to napoleon's invasion of 1812 and the swedish invasion of 1707, during the great northern war. there you go, you're welcome.

I'm well aware of the history. But the topic was Germany, so try to stay on point.

nice try, but you used the plural for both 'russian winter' and 'german army', which clearly indicates you thought there was more than one instance of that happening. so just be happy you learned something today and stop digging yourself into that hole trying to save face, kid.

when i posted that low effort joke i had no idea it would lead to a place where Fender is claiming Santara doesnt know about Napoleon.

that's not quite what i said though, is it? he might have heard about napoleon, but certainly wasn't aware about his invasion being stuck in russia during winter. that's my claim, and i think it's very reasonable considering his reply... i mean, it's well known that the american education system isn't exactly the best, right?

Or, alternatively, since Black is german (i think?) Santara could be taking the angle that Black isnt ok with the joke i made, and kept the topic as only germany because he was talking to a german about how a german takes jokes about germans.

anyone who's been through american middle school is at least familiar with Napoleon's campaigns. if anything, and i doubt even this, you reminded him of it. and taught him nothing. but as Santara is generally a student of history i doubt you even reminded him of it. perhaps just connected a few dots he might not have had at the front of his mind. but i wouldnt even make a claim on that.

is this one of those scenarios where europeans think americans are ignorant of european history? ive run into that a lot online, people thinking i must be entire ignorant of the war of the roses, or nordic expansion, or spanish armada, or w/e. we learn all of that in middle-high school.

Why isnt GWB in the Hague? Why are him and Cheney and Rumsfield laughing at us?

The situation I was referring to was Russian aggression in Ukraine, not Syria. What did you expect Europe to do? Are the Europeans really 'castrated' if they dont deploy several divisions to fight head on against Russian soldiers at the Russian doorstep?

The bonk-smiley was meant as an approving way of saying "oh screw you (that one hit home)". Baffling how much misunderstanding and drama can come out of a simple smiley.

still doesn't explain his use of plural in 'german armies' and 'russian winters', which made me question his history knowledge in the first place, as there was 'only' one instance.

oh, and nice anecdote about american education there. the reality: https://thehill.com/opinion/education/411700-when-it-comes-to-knowledge-of-american-history-we-are-a-nation-at-risk
i'd LOVE to see a similar survey about european history, which is a much smaller focus to begin with - and then juxtapose it with your 'we learn all of that in middle-high school' claim.
