Maybe.

I think people are too quick to jump to narratives though. For all we know Trump really did catch Covid and made a really fast recovery because he got tested so often and it was caught super early and was receiving top-shelf medical care. Maybe he'll downplay it, maybe this speedy recovery is just a testament of the massive amount of improvement in treatment we've seen developed in the last 6 months. The death rate has dropped significantly since April.

If death/million dropped from 7 to like 1-2, why shouldn't we start opening?

If a disease is less deadly now than it was 6 months ago because of advancements in treatment imo it is a really important consideration in opening or not.

Sure if there was a mechanism to pay for all the hospitalizations that America can not afford to pay for

This reopen rhetoric is made so binary. It’s not omg let’s open vs omg let’s close. This is corona age and people just have to learn how to live in it now. It will be this way for another 6 months minimum

The death rate is lower, but if we let hospitals get overrun again the death rate will go back up as doctors and nurses can't provide adequate care.

My grandmother in law just had to go to the ER for a problem unrelated to Covid. I told my wife to expect that even if she gets out, expect her to get covid in the hospital and die from that. and since my mother in law takes care of her who is also in a high risk group she's at risk as well.

The hospital they went to also had a 16 hour wait before she could get a room.

More complicated than just "this is the death rate with adequate care". Personally I really like my mother and grandmother in law and would prefer they not die from not having access to care for unrelated issues.

Reading news i'm suspecting Trump & team to go for herd immunity fake strategy. Looks terrific.

Really fascinating self-made contact tracing models about the so-called "Rose Garden Massacre":

I don't mean to imply a connotation to my thoughts of the forming narrative. I just think it will be the case. I've since gone to look at Trump's tweet, and it seems like the narrative is already forming:

This messaging is really stupid. Yes, we should indeed not let covid "dominate" our lives, whatever that entails in detail, but this does not imply the opposite, namely that we should (or can afford to) handle it recklessly the way Trump did.

Also, from a strategical point of view, it's stupid to talk like that. Covid is an issue on which Trump gets fucking slaughtered, a majority of voters hates the way Trump has handled it. Anything reminding them of this fact is a big net negative for him. Projecting a defiant, unrepentant attitude towards this issue will further endear him to his base, but turn off the other 60-70% of the country.

To be fair, back in February, a lot of us were still in denial and thought that this virus could be mostly contained in China.

That would imply it wasn't based on evidence or reason my friend.
