Recall that the Founding Fathers held political office positions like President or Senator etc as a side job - terms of service for the people - where they represented their constituents for a period of time before going home to do their real jobs.

Today most people in elected office (like se(c) clinton) utilize elected offices and appointed positions in govt as their careers, seeking not to push the limits of American exceptionalism, but to milk their constituents for their income and will say and do anything to keep their power.
