There is so much magical thinking about this in terms of people either saying it isn't real or saying that if we all just wear our mask and cross our fingers it will go away in a month. The reality is that people just need to figure out how to do business in this environment and do their best without government getting in the way. The mandatory closing of restaurants and businesses shouldn't be occurring. Restaurants and businesses should be able to try their best and if they fail then they close or settle it in court like everything else. Same with employers and disability...we have workmen's comp and at will employment, work from home, a robust welfare state for crises. A living wage and universal healthcare would be better. Repealing ACA would be unimaginable right now but certain people would do it.

My wife's work is work from home until June.

Also we just got an extra $500 for "working from home expenses" like internet and whatnot.

So that was nice. We bought her a nice desk and chair for about that much since she's gonna be working from home, and we also just had shitty walmart furniture that was 5 years old.

My work has been phenomenal about working from home. Something about hospital systems taking expert recommendations seriously lol

Looks like they're finally getting off their asses and making progress on a covid relief bill.

Only a few months too late for it to be meaningful, but hey, better than nothing.

They've agreed to include the same payments to Americans as last time in the bill. If we get stimulus that'll be nice. I've paid down enough debt that I can splurge a bit, or I've been thinking I need to open an IRA and that wouldn't be a bad deposit to start it.

Mine would go directly to rent myself. Also still waiting on the federal unemployment boost that Orangey signed for. Hopefully between that and my 2 crap jobs I can start to crawl out.

she's in safe hands, but fuck if she'll be moving to Commiefornia. pack your bags lad you're a wisconsinite now.

zero smell, almost no taste. thats what tipped it off, baby had a blow out, wife was gagging, etc. i didnt smell a thing. tried like 5 foods, no taste. spoon full of hot sauce, barely tasted it. then i was like fuck... ok i got it.

Count 3 months

Taste will come back after a week and so will smell to a smaller extent. But by in large both senses will be dulled for a bit. Then at 3 months it’s like magic u wake up and u can smell everything like a super hero. It had just rained and I smelled that post storm aroma.

Also on the bright side, diminished smell/taste is overall associated with a milder course of disease. Gl my friend

Too little too late. 1 in 7 small businesses defined as <12 employees have closed since March

It was always inevitable that at least 1 in 4 or so of the small businesses would not survive this. A new round of stimulus is still far better than no stimulus for most businesses. I dont even think there are that many small businesses for whom this 2 month delay made the difference between shutting down and surviving. The majority of SMB who folded during that timeframe were doomed either way.

this is an excuse for the richest country in the world IMHO

The money was there, it didn’t go to the businesses that needed it.

Current Dutch numbers for IC patients here. We've had some spiking and R was higher than 1.3, so new measures have been taken to ensure social distancing, along with finally a recommendation for masks in public indoor spaces.

it really is this simple.

during a pandemic hundreds of thousands of small businesses close in a few month period, while at the same time the largest corporations like Amazon make record profits on a crazy level.

even if u accept the "well thats how the system is set up, u cant just funnel money" excuse, the system is by design. we're in a meta where businesses are closing at a rapid rate, any changes to the system exacerbate it. and were doing nothing to stop it while doing nothing to slow amazon's profits. or any other of a dozen companies.

i find it funny that trillion dollar corporations are billed as the "american success story". no selling a gadget for 500k for 25% on shark tank is the american dream. Amazon isnt a person, its a blob of tech and underpaid lackies where Bezos rakes the profits off the top and investers trade up and down while people bitch about 3 day free shipping because it used to be 2. we absolutely could have a system which helps slow the decay of local business, but sadly no one cares.
