So just to put a fine point on the comparison from 8 pages back;
https://thehill.com/homenews/4392449-jan-6-rioters-who-were-passive-can-be-convicted-of-disorderly-conduct-court-rules/

the dc circuit is making the distinction that january 6th defendants can be charged with disorderly conduct and sent to prison for a year even if they provably did not riot, were not violent, disruptive or destructive, and did nothing beyond simply exist passively inside the crowd of people, arguing they earn collective punishment for the totality of the mob's actions. That stands in contrast to the Tim Kaine's son example, where he first attacked a pro-Trump rally, pepper sprayed people, then invaded a capitol building, threw smoke bombs and firecrackers and vandalized property, then fled from police, led a foot chase, squared off against police and tried to fight them. And got 4 whole days in jail with a suspended sentence.

That's a functional criminal justice system hard at work

It's extremely funny to me that a dyed in the wool conservative and life long Republican like IceMage is called a liberal because he won't go along with you guys pretending a guy trying to overthrow the election shouldn't be held accountable.

IceMage has been actively rooting for Democrats for the past 8 years, so he can hardly be considered a life long Republican anymore. Particularly since the Democratic party has fucking ZOOMED to the left on a wide range of issues over this timespan. But you're right, he's not actually a liberal - just someone who would be willing to put up with vast amounts of liberal policy if only it helps him get rid of Trump.

The bodies responsible for holding a POTUS accountable are the Congress of the United States and federal law enforcement, not state courts or state assemblies. And Congress did hold him accountable: he was impeached over his attempts to overturn the 2020 election and a solid majority of Senators voted to convict him, even if they fell short of the necessary two-thirds majority. Tough luck that the Constitution sets the bar super high for a move which usually has the extremely drastic effect of removing a sitting president from office, or that the founding fathers didn't think of a scenario in which impeachment is used for political theater at a time when the accused president has already left office.

I'm certainly not a true conservative, or anything close to it, but pre-Trump I was a solid Republican. Now I would describe myself as a right-leaning moderate, as is the median American voter, although I'm more socially conservative than the median voter, but my social conservatism doesn't override everything(like whether American democracy continues to exist, for instance).

Saying I've been rooting for Democrats the last 8 years isn't true... it's more accurate to say I've been reacting to Trump and Trumpism, and sometimes that means I support Democrats. I would be fucking ecstatic if Republican primary voters wanted to pick a sane candidate this election cycle and give me an actual choice... I'm a socially conservative Catholic, you think I want to vote for the rabidly pro-abortion and pro-LGBT Joe Biden? They don't want to pick a sane candidate, because the party is a cult of Donald Trump. I've understood this phenomenon for years and right-wingers on this forum still don't truly understand it(get that FG ready Bogie).

So, as a right-leaning moderate with socially conservative views and who is Catholic, if Trump is on the ballot I will choose Joe Biden, because preservation of American democracy and extinguishing(or at least containing) this dangerous cult from the world is more important than my numerous disagreements with the other policies of Joe Biden and the Democrats. To me, it's not even a close call.

your post only made sense to you. maybe not even that

So the option to directly quote other posts for context goes completely over your head? Or you just have nothing to say so you go with the equivalent of a toddler sticking his tongue out and blowing.

It made perfect sense to people who aren’t tribalist who’s brain freezes solid when presented with extremely obvious concepts.

You said the riots had nothing to do with the election. As stupid as this is to believe, I entertained that by saying thousands of people have been killed by police since Joe Biden became president and we haven’t had a single race riot or story about racist cops.

In Joe Biden’s America, police are not racist. Got it hog boy?

If DeSantis was the GOP nominee, would you vote for him over Biden? What about Haley? I can respect your position, even if I personally disagree with it - but I'm curious where you draw the line. Similarly, if 2016 had come down to Cruz vs Clinton, would you have gone with Cruz?

He would only vote for a Republican if it’s a Cheney or a Romney.
