It's because fundamentally our Justice system is there to funnel people to jail. Not actually protect or serve. The current model of policing is focused on punishing property crimes to allow capitalism to function.

Allowing children to die on account of cowardice is despicable. They should be terminated and shamed. But making police accountable (legally) for the protection of citizens at large is a big can of worms, which is why the Court ruled the way it did.

It's how our justice system as a whole was created. Police and the justice system in general exist primarily to protect property and property owners. Modern police departments come out of the industrial revolution and the transition to capitalism. They replaced things like the hew and cry system, and then the bounty hunter system in England and France (although France also had a history of police being part of the military). In the United States they also came from the need to return property (slaves) to their owners.

they exist to keep happy the ones who steal your tax money. You're underthinking because youre bought and paid for by the undertaker.
