You just admitted gun control laws don't work but then you want to tell someone like me who NEEDS to carry when I drive or go into the city(Chicago) because it has one of the highest crime rates in the country. Unlike you I've pulled a weapon outside a bar and was ready to down a scumbag while all the liberals ducked behind ME and cars scared for their life. Because of the restrictions you mentioned police officers in the city of Chicago will not respond to "shots fired" because they are armed with a tazer and a hip pistol and the street gangs have AK's, UZI's, Sawd off Shotguns. The safety of every citizen in the city was jeopardized by terrible laws like the ones you mentioned because THUGS don't follow laws. There's some street gangs that would kill a cop for sport.

I can no longer go to the city I was BORN in without carrying because the laws FAILED. They defunded the police and now street gangs run the city. You clearly live in an area that doesn't experience DAILY threats. I can go out on a Saturday night in the city during summer and hear gun shots going off every now and then and it's "normal".

Tell me how you would handle situations like that?

in reality, you live in a de facto oligarchy, your government exclusively works for corporations and the rich, your for profit prisons are filled to the brim with non-violent, low level offenders - nice "freedom". your police tramples all over your rights and regularly gets away with murdering you, your government surveils you and tells you what to do with your bodies. not once have americans successfully used their guns to prevent any kind of government overreach, intrusion, tyranny, or corruption. it's an illusion, an ad campaign, a means to brainwash low-iq individuals, a dumb and transparent excuse to "justify" your gun obsession against the tragic body count that goes with it.

at least have the balls to say it like it is: "fuck it, i love my guns, and i won't let a few dead children ruin this for me. my guns are more important to me than some strangers' kids" - that'd at least be honest. then again, if you had actual balls, you probably wouldn't be so obsessed with guns...

chicago has failed in a hell of a lot of ways, gun laws included, but that isnt the context we were discussing. im from the chicago area as well, naperville born, freeport raised, moved north to wisconsin while still in grade school. not sure why you'd want to go to the south side anyways unless ur a sox fan. i go to the city a few times a year without strapping up and havent feared for my life.

Just because you can go to the "Northside" or "Downtown" in areas that have a huge police presence doesn't make the city any more safe.

I would totally move to Carbondale I've visited SIU and loved it there. Cairo Illinois is another on my list despite it being super rural I feel like it'd be a quiet town and it's so south that it probably experiences a less harsh winter.

1. i was born there, i didnt grow up there, moved away before i was even in size 2 diapers and wasnt rich at all.

2. i never said the city was safe, in fact i made reference to the fact that a part of the city isnt safe (the south side)

3. if i was to implement something, as the non liberal that i am with a non liberal bias and likely a lot more guns and ammo than you have, i'd target illegal guns specifically before i did anything to legal gun ownership.

ive posted a lot in this thread about how difficult of an issue it is, then said to you almost no one is talking about banning guns entirely, yet you're still commenting at me in an entirely illogical way. my point was simple, not all gun control legislation invariably leads to gun ownership bans on a slippery slope. we have thousands of gun control laws in this country that haven't. in fact chicago has many of the most harsh gun control laws anywhere in the US other than perhaps NYC, and you can and do still legally carry a gun into town. and still dont see the contradiction you made. o well.

I suppose in Canada we have less shootings.

However, we have way less people living here.

Gun access is more restricted (5 bullets in the mag + 1 in chamber allowed only so 6 bullets total) for anything other than .22 carbines.

Automatics are prohibited, there are a lot of background checks for you to be allowed to own a .22 carbine (non-restricted firearm).

All handguns are restricted, more gun classes have to be taken and background check is more thorough. (Lifetime background check, they call your neighbors etc)

And guess what happens when someone wants to do a shootout? They just buy the gun on the black market or smuggle it over from the United States. (See Nova Scotia Shooter who killed 22 people).

People are very limited here when it comes to choosing a gun for hunting or shooting sports. After Trudeau passed a gun law on May 1, 2020, a lot of people were harassed because their M14 or many other guns became illegal, they were required to give away their guns to the government. However, they've introduced an amnesty order shortly after that.

Not to mention the Gun Registry which was a waste of millions of dollars, that has been discontinued for Canada, but still used in Quebec (*laugh out loud*)

All those laws and the criminals still have handguns and no permits.

Overall, they've made owning a gun for shooting sports or hunting very painful in Canada.
