Sure, but it's way harder and you won't have nearly as much of it. When the people who keep you in power become unhappy you tend to lose your power. Even Putin has people he has to keep happy or he will be replaced. There is no such thing as absolute power, and economic prosperity is a great way to stay in power because it gives you more resources to distribute to your keys to power.

The issue isn't how people in power can lose their power when the economy is bad. It's when you said that people are responding to covid because it does bad things to the masses, and I am telling you that I simply don't believe that. I simply don't believe that people in power care about us. And if it sometimes seems like they do, it's only because they want to avoid an uprising.
