I'm assuming this is for tip employees?

If so no issue with it.

Anyone that has worked in the restaurant business gets it. I worked as a cook for a few years, and the "below min wage" server would make my weekly check in two Friday-Saturday 4 hour shifts.

I had a friend who was a waitress in the Tampa Bay area making like 400-500 dollars a night and I assure you she wasn't crying about her minimum wage salary.

any smart 16 year old went and got a fast food job for 15$/hour during the last year of labor shortage.

LOL My rock climber buddy made huge$$ at 16 working a temp summer job climbing cell towers. Another was hustling cars at 16. Many youth aren't worth $1/hr, some are worth gold though. You are right though, most people hiring younsters want to milk them for every penny under the 'worthless' 'you need to earn it' guise. Real hustlers bypass this nonsense.
