I think having sons vs daughters also skews the poll a bit

There are a lot of us with daughters and that makes my answer reflexive and easy , whereas if I had a son I probably would think about it for 2 seconds before still hopefully voting no

Depends, I would have to see the kid to make that judgement. Is this accompanied by numerous wounds in multiple stages of healing?

I just mean belt in place of spanking with hand. Not like actually beating the shit out of someone with a belt all over their body

Never had physical punishment here. I saw other step siblings and cousins get spanked and the fear of god put into them and if anything comparing that to my mother who would just do her best to make me realize my mistakes is really what helped. Also probably why I have a heavy bias here. All of my siblings or people I know who are fuck ups or have poor control of their emotions, their parents resorted to emotional tactics as well in parenting with anger and physical punishment.

Stick has to be thinner than a thumb, when you beat your wife and kids.

yeah absolutely not. hitting your children is an acute failure of parenting and child abuse

Spanking seems so primitive to me... like cavemen who don't have the intellect or the self-discipline to find more creative ways to shape a kid's behavior. I don't have kids, but I do have a nephew and niece, and I couldn't imagine hitting them for any reason.

I think part of it is the parent's need to release their frustration on the kid. Whether it be hitting them(spanking) or yelling, it's more about the parent's lack of discipline and self-control. It's not really about the best avenue for shaping the child's behavior.
