This is true. Women are hypergamous because of biology, they want the strongest genetic offspring and a man that can protect them while they are vulnerable from pregnancy for 9 months.
But when you give women higher salaries than is appropriate through affirmative action and give them $70,000 a year from the government welfare if they get illegitimate children from Jack Nicholson - what other choice do the bottom half of men have other than quietly dying alone? They are never in the marketplace because women have priced themselves completely out of the dating market.
A majority of people have to have a path that promises a reasonable possibility of marriage for a civilization not to go haywire. A majority of people don't seem to have any choices currently.
