The 17th amendment provides for the direct election of senators. As a result, Senators are directly elected by their constituents, and are thus responsible to them.

We can't blame Senators for responding to this and acting increasingly like Congressmen, we were the ones who pulled the trigger.

Trump followed the legal process. It's a competition not a gimme. As long as he had a chance, he was well within his rights, and would have been stupid not to fight.

Al Gore followed the same procedure. Don't behave as though Trump is some outlier when it comes to utilization of the legal election process.
