I think it's better when Trump isn't involved. He's done a fairly decent job outsourcing judges to the Federalist Society and he made Pence in charge of Operation Warp Speed. If he shuts up and lets the agencies do their thing, I think that's the best course of action.

We don't know if damage was done but I'd argue that obtaining knowledge IS damaging. If Coca-Cola's recipe became public, that would be damaging to them because it's a trade secret.

Yeah but in that analogy cocacola is also spying on Pepsi and we don’t know how much knowledge Coca-Cola had obtained but can assume it’s a superior amount because Coca Cola is superior to Pepsi

I would strongly recommend viewing of the film "Look Who's Back!" You can find it under it's original title of "Er Ist Wieder Da" and the premise is that Adolf Hitler went into some sort of coma and woke up in 2015 and quickly developed an online and in-person following. At first, it's because the general public thinks it's a parody, but it's not long before modern Hitler starts gaining right-wing fanatics on his side; specifically the younger individuals.

I'm not sure why people engage with Bob anymore. The guy clearly isn't grounded in reality and never seems to have a command of the facts.

This is a very clear escalation which is why it warrants retaliation. The fact that we still don't know the entire scale of this attack and that it went unnoticed for months is pretty serious. One of the reasons we are hearing about it is because it was such a large attack. I agree that if it was minor, we wouldn't have heard about it. Anyway, it's NOT ignorant to retaliate because this ISN'T the status quo.

Nonsensical post.

Again, to bring a case in court, you need to prove injury. What is the injury from this alleged cyberattack? Clearly detail it. You're speaking of "retaliation" over... What? Further, that there was an attack at all is a claim made by FireEye and SolarWinds. Two private corporations. These corporations alleged attacks based on internal investigations, then notified the NSA of the alleged attacks. They alleged the culprits, including entities connected to the Russian, Chinese, and even Iranian governments. The NSA was completely unaware of any attacks prior to being notified. The only evidence that any attacks even occurred are allegations from FireEye and SolarWind. The only evidence on who's behind the alleged attacks are allegations from FireEye and SolarWind. And regarding "injury" from the alleged attacks? Nobody has offered any evidence of any injury whatsoever.

So, tell us specifically, what exact "retaliation" do you recommend?

Your analogy is complete shit and you should feel bad. I already gave my recommendation for retaliation (increased sanctions).

It's the perfect analogy. Why would we impose sanctions on a nation that has done us no injury, when we wouldn't even hear a case in court where no injury is present?

You're a warhawk, is the basic answer.

I can't believe I need to explain this to you. If I post all your passwords, social security number, etc. online, you're arguing that you're not injured. That's complete horseshit. If espionage had no value, people wouldn't do it. Losing a competitive advantage IS injury.

Sanctions are a diplomatic and financial tool...that's the exact opposite of a warhawk lmao.
