Here in Canada the government made it far to easy to get $2,000 a month. Clear eligibility requirements existed but no screening process existed in order to roll out money fast and thus it was only a press of a button and an online form.

Now a significant portion of applicants need to pay back up to $18,000. People are screaming. From just a pure anecdotal account, almost every single person in my town applied, they all purchased new ATV's Ski-doos, etc. It's been pretty disgusting. Entire familys of everyone 18 and older applying. Its been wild....

On the flip side, U.S.A takes 9 months to toss people $600.

This was my favourite one from CRA after this had all happened. They sent out "Education Letters". Which is really a "you have to repay $18,000 because letter"

They are letting people repay it overtime but still it's quite the debacle. No one here has money left to repay, they will end up being garnished for years to come.

Maybe Canada will be more like America and just add it onto the growing debt.

As a selfish fuck who obviously didn't apply because I don't meet requirements, I'd cope since I know that many who did apply and didn't meet eligibility requirements still needed it, but id still be salty.

The Prime Minister repeatedly said on National Television that the consequences of fraudulently applying would be significant. But now half a million non-eligible people applied, and he's like oh, you can pay that back interest free over the next 3 years.
